A five-minute walk away from Zurich’s Bahnhofplatz will take you to Helvetia, a mint-colored 5-story building located along Stauffacherquai. Documented as one of the city’s pivotal establishments in 1970s to 1980s, its charming elegance from the outside is something that you won’t be able to resist the urge to discover.
This lovely and radiant boutique hotel houses 14 charming rooms and 2 luxury business apartments in the attic. Given the limited space, the rooms – down to the tiniest details are well thought of. The design silently screams understated elegance – and we can say that there are only a few hotels in the world that has achieved it and that includes Helvetia.

It’s the place to go for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of city life without actually leaving Zurich.
On the first floor is where the heart of Helvetia lies: a wooden-paneled dining room that boasts of 14 points awarded by the Gault-Millau gourmet guide. Serving regional ingredients fresh from the market, this was definitely one of the highlights of our stay in this hotel.
Helvetia serves as the landmarks of the old and the new Zurich – sedate yet innovative, bourgeois yet progressive. This combination was reflected in its much diversified patronage, including people from all walks of life. Today, the “Helvti” is a meeting place for this characteristic blend of the bohemian and the bourgeoisie. Its supreme location brings together an interesting crowd – from hipsters to businessmen; gourmet diners to patrons – who all go to Helvetia to unwind after a long day.
The property is built right next to a busy road, where cars and trams pass by nonstop, and yet it feels completely serene inside. It’s the place to go for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of city life without actually leaving Zurich.
During the summer months, I highly recommend their rooftop terrace bar that serves some of the best and most refreshing cocktails while soaking in the 360° panoramic view of Zurich.
